Real-time Measurement of Atmospheric Data during the ATV Reentry

Sven Weikert, Astos Solutions GmbH, Unterkirnach, Germany
As extension to the planed sensors and cameras on board the JV-MAC aircrafts, measurement of atmospheric density and pressure in high altitudes will complete the data required to reproduce ATV's reentry by simulation, whereas exact atmospheric data is mandatory to verify the mechanical, aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic models of ATV. The necessity of accurate atmospheric measurements and their advantage over atmospheric models will be shown. Remote measuring systems that could be installed aboard an aircraft will be presented and evaluated.
